ABOUT
“Radio has the power to bring people together, create shared experiences, and foster a sense of community like no other medium.”
- Unknown

Across all EU Member States, marginalized communities often find themselves on the outskirts of society, with limited or no access to public services. These communities, which include seniors, refugees and migrants, rural populations, and other vulnerable groups, are increasingly affected by isolation and a lack of opportunities for civic participation and inclusion. Even before the Ukrainian crisis, in2020, 96.5 million people in the EU–21.9% of the population–were at risk of poverty or social exclusion. Unfortunately, the voices of these individuals often go unheard, and their civic engagement continues to decline.

The COMM UNITY project aims to amplify these voices through the power of community radio. As a community-driven and community-owned platform, community radio enables marginalized groups to express themselves and acquire new skills. In 2021, radio was voted the most trusted media in the world (source: Katz analysis of the latest MRI-Simmons COVID-19 Consumer Insights Study). However, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) reported that individuals from smaller communities and ethnic minorities are significantly underrepresented on radio and television.

Need

Recognizing the pressing need for inclusive solutions that promote civic participation, the COMM UNITY project is dedicated to connecting marginalized groups with the broader community. Our team is currently preparing a facility to welcome Ukrainian refugees, going beyond addressing their basic physical needs. We believe that these individuals deserve to have their voices heard and their stories shared.

Mission

Join us in our mission to foster connection and inclusion for marginalized communities across Europe through the powerful medium of community radio. Together, we can create a more inclusive and engaged society where everyone's voice matters.
